The “Love Conquers Hate” Campaign was launched on Nov 4th, 2013 by US based Human Rights Campaign (HRC) a LGBT advoacy group. The goal of the campaign is to support and bring attention to Russia’s LGBT community, who HRC says are being targeted by an “anti-propoaganda” law that prohibits public support for equality in that country.
The “Love Conquers Hate t-shirt” is a russian language version HRC’s iconic Love Conquers Hate t-shirt, with participants being urged to share a photo of themselves wearing the t-shirt on their social media platforms with the #LoveConquersHate. A website loveconquershate.org will aggregate the photos that are shared on the hashtag and 100% of net proceeds from the t-shirt sales will go to a fund that supports Russian LGBT adovcates.
According to HRC, since the launch of the campaign a diverse group of celebrities, politicians and sports stars have lent their support to the campaign by wearing the t-shirts in public. People and stars are being urged to show their support
Already photos of stars in the t-shirt like Kevin Bacon, Wentworth Miller, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ricky Martin, and many others have been shared.
